Election Information

Precinct Committeemen

Randolph County has 37 precincts and committeemen; they are elected every two years as per Illinois Election Code. They are elected at the General Primary Election by political parties; Democratic and Republican are the parties in Randolph County.

All committeemen in each political party make up the party’s central committee. By law they must select a chairman on the 29th day succeeding the primary in the general election which is held in the even numbered years. [10 ILCS 5/7-9 (a)] The chairman sets the direction for the party and may fill vacancies among the precinct committeemen.

Precinct committeemen are given statutory authority to appoint the judges of election for their political party in their precinct. If you wish to become a judge of election, contact your precinct committeeman for your party, or your political party chairman.

Precinct committeemen help their party’s candidates, organize fund-raisers, and may help introduce candidates to the voters in their precinct. Your precinct committeeman is usually a good source of information about candidates. You can find your committeeman by clicking on the link that goes with the party of your choice.
